The EcoAmazonia Lodge is located about 35 km down the Madre de Dios River from Puerto Maldonado and takes about 1½ to get their by boat. This comfortable lodge is one of the best in the region - there are 40 rustic bungalows, each with private bathroom and a screened sitting room with hammocks. Because of the lodge's easy access from Cusco it makes for an ideal 3- or 4-day jungle adventure and are an excellent introduction to the Amazon Rainforest. The trips offer good value for money, (US$160 for the 3 day trip and US$210 for the 4 day trip). Remember that this price doesn't include flights to and from Puerto Maldonado.
EcoAmazonia offer a variety of Lodge based jungle trips. Their most popular trips are their 4-day EcoAventura program and their 3-day Ecological program. We have included a copy of their 4-day itinerary below. Basically the 3-day itinerary is exactly the same except that you return to Puerto Maldonado on the third day instead of taking the river trip.
Ecoaventura (4 days, 3 nights)
1st
Day: Arrival at the ecological city of Puerto Maldonado, reception and
transfer. We shall begin our trip with a brief visit of the city, an outboard
motor cruise down the Madre de Dios river. Arrival at EcoAmazonia Lodge, local
welcome drink and accommodation in our comfortable bungalows.
We will embark on our first visit, crossing the river by canoe to MONKEY ISLAND;
the first and only one of its kind in the heart of the Madre de Dios river,
protected and conserved by EcoAmazonia Lodge. On this spectacular visit you will
have the chance to appreciate the diversity of flora but most of all observe
various species of monkeys in their natural habitat - among them the little lion
of the jungle as well as the large Maquisapa monkeys.
The island is also ideally situated to enjoy the sun-set, giving us an
impressive view of the jungle landscape.
Return to lodge, dinner.
2nd
Day: After a very early breakfast we shall embark on another adventure in
the virgin jungle, following local trails leading to Qocha Perdida (Lost
Lagoon). This acts as a refuge and feeding ground for numerous animals such as
black cayman, river turtles, giant otters as well as a large variety of fish.
Along the way we will come across huge trees of all shapes and sizes, medicinal
plants, numerous insects and butterflies as well as a variety of birds.
On arrival at the Lagoon we will be able to climb up our extraordinary 'Amazon
Lookout Platform' built on the top of one of the tallest trees, the Shihuahuaco,
a way of enjoying the nature that lives around the Qocha as well as offering us
an impressive panoramic view of the surroundings. We will also visit the Lagoon
by canoe prior to our return to the lodge for lunch. The afternoon is free to
explore locally to the lodge. Dinner is provided in the evening.
3rd Day: Breakfast. Continuing with our adventure we shall take a canoe
this day, along the Madre de Dios river as far as the Gamitana river, deep in
the heart of the jungle. A marvelous and impressive area for flora and fauna
which we shall explore in smaller canoes to fully appreciate animals such as
turtles, cayman, butterflies etc. This small tributary is lush with a variety of
plants with fascinating surroundings along its winding course. Box lunch is
provided. After a brief rest we return to the lodge. In the evening we'll have
dinner.
4th Day: Breakfast. Transfer to Puerto Maldonado airport.
