Getting There & Away

Govinda

Jerusalen 505, Arequipa. Tel 28 5540

Govinda is an excellent vegetarian restaurant run by Hare Krishna. It has a great selection of tasty dishes as well as cheap set daily lunches ($1.5).

Bonanza

Jerusalen 114-116, Arequipa. Tel 21 5371

Very good restaurant for meat and pasta dishes, all reasonably priced ($4-6). Popular with the locals which is always a good sign.

Sol de Mayo

Jerusalen 207, Arequipa. Tel 25 4148

This is a good place to try out local Arequipeñan dishes all moderately priced. They also offer a set lunch at $3. Meals are served in their outdoor courtyard. Open 11am-7pm.

Tradicion Arequipeña

Avenida Dolores 111, Paucarpata, Arequipa. Tel 242 385.

Situated slightly outside town (about $2 in taxi) this is a popular lunchtime restaurant both with locals and tourists alike. The food is mainly Peruvian but for the unadventurous there is beef steak, chicken and chips on the menu. Rocoto Relleno (hot peppers stuffed with rice, vegetables and meat) always goes down well.
