At Casa Ecológica, we dedicate ourselves to the production and marketing of Organic Food, Natural Medicine and Traditional Handcrafts. We work to create Sustainable Development alternatives for the Communities of the Cusco Region and to promote Fair Trade among their members.

In the crafts line, we offer Traditional Textiles made using traditional methods with natural dyes and fibers, by weavers from different communities. Commonly, the wool they use is from sheep and/or alpaca, although sometimes llama, guanaco and vicuña wool may also be used.

Colors are obtained from dye-plants, and other natural sources, like cochineal, chappi, awaipilli, quimsa cucho, yanali, mote mote, chillca, eucalyptus, kakasunca, among others.

The iconography expressed on the textiles is traditionally used in the communities and it represents the life and environment of their inhabitants, maintaining their cultural traditions and hence the identity of their people.

The iconography and colors depend on the geographical region where they come from.

Generally, in the high Andean communities (the Ausangate snow peak region) very fine alpaca wool is available, (since these people are breeders of this species of South American cameloid) and to weave they use the fiber in its natural color.

On the other hand, in the communities of the lower region (the Mapacho river basin), they have to acquire wool by means of buying or bartering for dye-plants, fruit and other products abundant in that area.

At Casa Ecológica we promote barter in monthly-programmed meetings, as a method of traditional commercial and cultural exchange between different communities, motivating, in this way, the independent sustainable development of the indigenous high Andean and rainforest people.

Our designs are made of typical garments, like llicllas (shoulder cloths), chumpis (wide belts) or chullos (knitted hats), chuspas (woven bags), and also some utilitarian items like table runners, scarves, bedcovers; as well as skirts, vests, jackets and other contemporary designs intended to diversify our supply and place the community products successfully in the market.

Casa Ecológica, executes reforestation projects for the natural dye-plants to avoid their extinction due to indiscriminate harvesting; we also manage projects of genetic improvement for the alpaca in different communities, to obtain high quality wool for weavings; we also encourage the hand spinning of yarn, both to create work opportunities in those communities, and because it is part of their cultural tradition.

By buying these textiles you benefit the weavers of the following communities: Quico (Q´eros), Mallma, Tinki, Ocongate, Uppis, Pacchanta, Marampaqui Alto y Bajo, Huacatincu, Pitukiska, Chimor, Bombon, Parobamba, Lambrampata, Laly, Otocani, Sahuay, Solan, Amaru, Lamay, Willoq, Patacancha and others that are joining the project.

We can handle orders for one or two pieces, as well as orders in series, for which we have to organize the weavers of different communities and we make the textiles according to the chosen designs.

If you are interested in our work, and have innovative ideas, we can develop new designs according to your request.
