Puno is often referred to as the "Folklore Capital of Peru" celebrating numerous fiestas throughout the year and having over a hundred traditional dances. The following are fiestas that particularly important in the Lake Titicaca region:
Epiphany 06 January
Virgen de Candelaria 02 February
Saint John 7-8 March
Alacitas (miniature handicraft fair in Puno) 02-04 May
Feast of Santa Cruz or "Holy Cross" (Taquile) 03 May
Virgen de Carmen (Pucara) 16 July
Saint James (Taquile) 25 July
Virgen de la Gracia "Our Lady of Mercy" (Juliaca) 24 September
Puno Week 1-7 November with dramatization of the legend of Manco Capac & Mama Ocllo
