Peru Wines, Wines from Peru, Peruvian winesTacama Blanco de Blancos (white)

This wine has a beautiful yellow colour, little sustained, and perfectly brilliant. Its bouquet is delicate and it is distinguished by the intensity and diversity of its aromatic notes, dominated by the very mature Sauvignon character; we also find exotic notes of pineapple and passion fruit. The aromatic brilliance is evident and indicative of a wine of great stock. Tasting reveals a good dense structure with notable harmony which makes this a most elegant wine. The fruity flavours in the mouth concur with the quality of this great wine, globally and totally exceptional.

Tacama (Peru) Blanco de Blancos 2005
A blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Chardonnay, this wine from Viña Tacama pours a light gold colour and has a fresh, lightly tropical aroma with a definite apricot note and glimpses of quite ripe Sauvignon notes of lychee and guava. On the palate there's a fruit cocktail syrupy quality to the flavour, with a slightly blowsy Viognier character dominating. But this is a bone dry wine, and a pithy lemon acidity runs through it, giving an edge to that just ever so slightly cloying fruit character. A powerful wine this, though alcohol is modest at 13%, and it finishes with good length.

TACAMA Blanco de Blancos White Wine.
Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier & Chardonnay blend.
A wine of fine lineage. Perfectly brilliant in colour, it reveals fresh aromas of ripened Sauvignon and Viognier fragrances.
Well balanced and structured, the wine is harmoniously rich and very elegant.

2002 Tacama Blanco de Blanco Ica Valley Peru $9
I’m sure I can safely say that most wine lovers outside of Peru or South America have not tasted many Peruvian wines. I have only tasted a few but I am impressed with the quality/price ratio. This dry and crisp wine is an interesting blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Viognier. I don’t know what the percentage of each grape is but in taste and style the Sauvignon Blanc is the dominant grape. In is most akin to a white Bordeaux. A bright straw color with grassy aromas of flower petals and citrus. This light bodied wine is dry, clean, and refreshing on the palate. Delicate in structure with a crisp acidity. The mineral, grapefruit, lime, and tangy fruit flavors work well together. The finish is again bone dry, clean, and crisp.
