Description:

This hotel was only opened a couple of years ago and is run by Dutch woman, Tineke Griffioen, who has made Cusco her home. She speaks both English and Dutch and is particularly welcoming and helpful. The 3-star hostal is located in the San Blas which is Cusco's artists district. The surrounding streets are very narrow and picturesque and their is no problem getting a taxi right up to the front door of the hostal (unlike many other hostals in San Blas). All of the rooms have private bathrooms and are situated around a central courtyard. Good value. Highly recommended.

Hostal Marani is closely related to the organisation HoPe Foundation (Holanda-Peru) www.stichinghope.org which is responsible for education and health projects in Peru. However the hostal is run as a separate business and profits don't directly benefit the organisation

Overall Rating: 8/10 (J.M Australia 14 Oct 2007)

"The stay in Cusco in Hostal Marani was extremely pleasant. Behind the typical closed front and the small peeping hole in the door, waits the privacy of a hospitable open space with comfortable rooms. But above all an atmosphere of friendliness and security, hospitality of a type that has become rare in the hotel world. It is moreover pleasant, so far away from home, to meet with people having essential local knowledge. Last but not least, there is of course the work that the owners Walter and Tineke perform, which directly benefits the Peruvian population. They ask and call for help, and one knows, as a good person, that one should oblige. But for most of us, it is a big step to live this. With just a money donation it is a lot easier. So admiration also for the work done for the local population. Lots of success in business and otherwise!"

"My husband and I stayed at Hotal Marani near the end of a 6 week trip beginning in Guatemala. Hostal Marani was by far our favorite hostal! Tineke helped us daily by answering questions and making travel arrangements. The staff is incredibly friendly and you feel like you are at home. Plus enjoying their wonderful breakfast while sitting on the patio is fantastic!"
