Description
The Inkaterra Machu Picchu Hotel (formerly known as the Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel) is probably the best hotel in the district and is located 5 minutes walk from the new station at Aguas Calientes. Ideally situated in 5 hectares of cloud forest garden beside the Vilcanota River, the hotel comprises 85 comfortable rooms each slightly different from one another and all having great views out over colourful gardens. The architecture is Spanish colonial in style with stone archways and red tiled roofs. There's a definite homelike atmosphere about the hotel, with colourful handcrafted furnishings and spacious rooms filled by plenty of natural light. The gardens are incredible with over 372 species of orchid, native palms, ferns, begonias, fruit trees and medicinal plants. The staff are friendly and helpful and can organize tours to the ruins. Inkaterra also run the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica, a luxurious jungle lodge set in a private ecological reserve in Tambopata.
"Recommended, beautiful colonial style bungalows, lovely gardens" - South America Handbook. "The most elegant and interesting hotel around" - Rough Guide to Peru.
