Lima is a large and often confusing Latin American city, and it is easy to stray into dangerous neighbourhoods and get into trouble. Walking around with a guidebook in your hand, looking lost, will sure to invite unwanted attention. So if you are visiting Lima for just a day or two, an organized tour of the major sights might be the best option.
Standard city tours are offered by a number of travel agencies and can be reserved online or purchased through your hotel when you arrive in Lima. Make sure you ask for a receipt that lists what is included in the tour, how much you have paid and the name of the company operating the tour.
Never buy tours from agents who approach you at the airport in Lima or from taxi drivers. We recommended the following agencies below for buying tours in the Lima area. However if you want tours of places such as Arequipa, Cusco or Machu Picchu it is highly recommended that you purchase these tours upon arrival at your destination. In this way if you have any problems with the service then it is easy to return to the office where you bought your tour and make a complaint.
