Description:

Loki is owned by two expats (from Ireland and Israel) who have renovated a run-down colonial building in the Santa Ana district of Cusco.  The hostal itself is definitely a backpackers dream: cheap and cheerful and a great place to meet other travellers. Although it has only been open a few years it is rapidly becoming infamous for its all-night parties and drinking sessions. The rooms are basically furnished but there are plenty of extra amenities which makes Loki a better choice than other budget hostals: comfortable beds, excellent showers with plenty of hot water, free internet access, use the kitchen and TV room. Most of the rooms are single-sex or mixed dormitories although there are a few double rooms with private bathrooms if you prefer your privacy. The main complaint is that it is located 5 blocks from the centre up a steep one-way cobblestone street, and the neighbourhood is not very safe. However there is a security guard outside the hostal 24hrs and as long as you take a taxi (just US$1) to and from the centre you'll be OK.  Great views of the city at night. Loki also has two other backpackers hostals, one in Lima and another in La Paz.

"huge, funky hostel in a restored viceroy's residence on the steep Cuesta Santa Ana, dorms and rooms set around a beautiful courtyard, comfortable beds, hot water, free internet. A great meeting place! - South American Handbook

Overall Rating 7/10 (05 September 2007 D. Grant Perth, Australia)

"Great place apart from the distance from the Plaza, definitely not for people suffering from the altitude as you have to climb up huge steps to get to the hostal. There are plenty of rooms which adds to  great atmosphere, parties every night, noisy so no good if you have to get up early for the Inca Trail, in-house bar, good hot showers, free breakfast. Great value nightly meals. Plenty of other Australian, Kiwi, British, Irish backpackers, free internet"

"If you want to visit Peru to learn about Peruvian culture then best avoid this ex-pat run hostal. Most of the staff don't even speak Spanish. When our tour guide came to collect us to start our trek he was left outside - he told us Peruvians weren't allowed in !! Speaks for itself. If you want a cheap hostal with loud music every night and teenagers acting as if it was the first time away from home then maybe this is the place for you"
